WAM UK may also choose to use cookies to store user preferences. A cookie can tell us, "This is the same computer that visited the WAM UK website two days ago," but it cannot tell us, "This person is "Frank Zappa", or even "This person lives in "Rochdale" Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.

A number of companies offer utilities designed to help you visit Web sites anonymously.

Although we will not be able to provide you with a personalised experience at WAM UK if we cannot recognise you, we want you to be aware that these tools exist.

What about cookies? Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we may transfer to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser to enable our systems to recognise your browser and to provide additional site features.

The "help" portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. However, cookies may allow you to take full advantage of some of our website's more advanced features, and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

Links to other sites: The information linked to by WAM UK information services may be developed by people over whom WAM UK exercises no control. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data, or solicit personal information. WAM UK may choose to exhibit its search results in the form of a "URL redirector." When WAM UK uses a URL redirector, if you click on a URL from a search result, information about the click is sent to WAM UK, and WAM UK in turn sends you to the site you clicked on. WAM UK uses this URL information to understand and improve the quality of our search technology. For instance, WAM UK uses this information to determine how often users are satisfied with the first result of a query and how often they proceed to later results.
